Interaction with Grandfather
This summer
vacation I visited my grandparents home
in Allahbad. Both of them are there in late seventies. For my generation gap
assignment I first interview my
grandfather, Shekhar Joshi. He was born in a small Himalayan village in
Almora,Uttarakhand. It was very insightful journey about his childhood and
life. For him the biggest generation gap is of use of English as language for
communication. In his childhood days the language for communication was his
native language Kumaoni. Granpa left home at very early age after the death of
his mother. He completed my schooling in Ajmer,Rajasthan. In his school days
half pant and
shirt was the regular uniform. It was very interesting to know that there were
no transport for commuting to school. Grandpa use to walk 3 km daily to reach
his school. They did not have furniture like we have instead there classes were
held under the tree and they sat on the floor. Grandpa nursery school was a
very small one located at Darmian in Almora,Uttarakhand Whereas his primary and
secondary school was in a modest building in Kekdi,Ajmer,Rajasthan. He became
nostalgic while talking about his school days.
